Your food choices can worsen your anxiety and depression. It is also a fact that being in a depressive state encourages your consumption of unhealthy food. However, one has to choose between the both, diet or depression?

Sugar

According to researchers, eating sugar elevates the glucose levels in blood and simultaneously causes a drop in the levels of protein (protein supports the development of synapses and neurons). Simply put, your brain works at minimal level the excess amount you eat sugar, causing a chances of depression, dementia, and diabetes as well.

Alcohol

Alcohol is actually a depressant as it changes the level of serotonin and the neurotransmitters in the brain. Alcohol also impacts hydration and sleep triggering anxiety. Trans Fat

Trans fat are the unsaturated fats that cannot be found in whole foods. It is generally used in items like snack food, margarine, packaged foods, baked products and oils used for frying the fast food. Trans fat can not only cause depression but increase the risk of artery-clogging.

Processed Food

Processed food has lots of negative impact on your health, especially if you’re suffering from depression. Things such as cereal, white bread, pasta, or snack food items have processed carbohydrates or refined carbohydrates in them. This will initially give a boost to your sugar levels, but will come down as quickly making you feel fatigued, irritated and blue.

High Sodium Food

Did you know most of the fat-free foods have high amount of sodium in them? Fat-free foods are touted as best solution for weight loss but its totally futzing with your neurological system. Excess sodium not only causes depression but messes up with your immune system, cause fatigue, fluid retention and bloating.

Hydrogenated Oil

Stay away from items like French fries, fried cheese sticks, fried chicken, fried calamari, basically anything that is deep fried. They do deep frying in hydrogenated oil and it holds trans fat that will potentially contribute for the symptoms of depression disorder. Saturated fats such as high fat containing products, dairy products, deli meats can leads to clog arteries which causes alteration in blood flow to the brain.

It isn’t easy to cut out these foods from your diet. However, you can surely kick depression if you’re deeply committed and disciplined.
