How to Use?
It is to be consumed orally just prior going to bed. It must not be consumed with or straight away after food. The recommended initial dose is 1mg. The maximum dose is 3mg. For elderly patients and those with renal or hepatic impairment, the dose should not exceed by 2mg. It has to be consumed once per day.
The dosage depends on the age, gender, your medical condition and required time for the treatment. Do not take more than approved dose as the risk of adverse effects can increase.
Taking 1mg in the first dose helps to be alert and responsive on the next day so that you will be able to drive or operate machinery. But if it isn’t working then the dosage can be increased to 2mg but after consulting the doctor. Do not suddenly stop or change the dosage without telling your physician.
You might face Rebound Insomnia (trouble sleeping first few nights) which is normal and will usually go away in 1 or 2 nights. Contact your doctor if the effect still continues.
When you stop this medicine or take at high doses you can have withdrawal reactions. The symptoms are nausea, flushing, stomach cramps, vomiting, or nervousness. Visit your healthcare expert if you have any symptoms and the dosage will be reduced gradually.

There can be more adverse or serious side effects which are not listed here. But in case you suffer from any of the side effects then consult with your doctor. The dosage and reactions will be controlled thereafter.
You might even sleepwalk or drive or have sex without full alertness and then wake up in the morning with no memory of it. If any such thing happens to visit your doctor for a possible solution.

Ethanol, when combined with Eszopiclone, will create an increased effect on your psychomotor skills.

Patients using Lunesta at higher doses (even if so prescribed) can face daytime impairment whose symptoms cannot be seen clinically. In such cases, they should be warned of not to drive/ride any vehicle or using or operating any type of machinery or any other activity which requires your full concentration and alertness.
Lunesta is a sedative-hypnotic agent it should be used alone itself and no other sedatives are to be taken at bedtime or midnight.
Take the medication only if you have enough 7 to 8 hours duration of sleep time or else the chance of next day drowsiness will be increased.
Provide a information of your medical history and family history or any medications if you are taking to your physician. This will help to prevent any adverse drug reaction and also the chances of any side effects.
Avoid drinking alcohol or caffeine as they will considerably increases the risk of adverse reactions and also increases the daytime drowsiness. You will be less alert and responsive. It can lead to behavior changes and abnormal thinking.
The dosage is minimum in elderly and pediatric patients as the risk of falling due to dizziness is increased.
It is strictly not recommended in pregnant and breastfeeding women as it can pass to the infant and cause various disorders. It can be only given if necessary and after consultation from the doctor.
If you get any suicidal thoughts or mental changes like hallucinations or depression or even if the drug stops working for you visit your doctor immediately.
It can be used in patients with renal or hepatic impairment but those with severe impairment should not exceed a dosage of 2mg.
Overdose is a result of long-time use or use at higher doses. The symptoms seen in overdose are shallow or deep breathing, unconsciousness for a long time and in rare cases can cause coma or death. If you think that you have overdosed yourself immediately report to the medical assistance or a doctor.
Pregnant women or those expecting to be pregnant should inform the doctor the prior and if using any medication provide the details. Eszopiclone can pass to the infant and can cause miscarriage or birth defects.
If you are hypersensitive to this drug or drug of this class i.e. sedatives or hypnotics then inform the doctor.
Sometimes changes in sleep patterns occur naturally and for this try to avoid caffeine and daytime naps. Try to sleep for a minimum of 7 hours and at the same time.
